1/11/2008 - AFS-IPP to host AAI Conference in April 2008

by Jerry Reyes (2006-2008 Board Member)

AFS Philippines will host a meeting of the AFS Asia-Pacific Initiatives (AAI) on April 12-14, bringing together the top leaders and partners from 10 participating countries to review the progress of AFS in their respective countries, share ideas, strategies, and resources on how to move AFS forward.

The AAI conference will be preceded by a Leadership Training Workshop on April 15-16 organized by AFS International for the partner directors of the region to address technical and development concerns and equip them with fresh approaches in the AFS network.

Participants of AAI are Australia, China (working in collaboration with the China Education Association for International Exchanges [CEAIE]), Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, and Thailand.

AAI was established in 1993 in Bali, Indonesia. Similar to other regional groups such as those in Europe and in Latin America, AAI has been envisioned to serve as the engine of growth for the Asia-Pacific region and the whole network. It has adopted “Asian-Pacific Hearts Beating Together” as its motto. Bin Sato of Japan has served as AAI President since its establishment.
