8/4/2007 - AFS Philippines Marks Golden Anniversary
In commemoration of its 50th year of fostering intercultural exchange among the Filipino youth, AFS Intercultural Programs Philippines will hold a two-day golden anniversary celebration at the One Esplanade in Pasay City, Aug. 17, and at the Palms Country Club in Alabang, Aug. 18.
With the theme ”We Are One,” the two-day affair will highlight the arrival of Tachi Cazal, president of AFS International, as the Guest of Honor for the Gala Night.
The gala night will also mark the launch of the AFS Mabuhay Award, a special citation given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth of AFS Philippines, among other qualifications.
A commemorative song titled ”We are One” written by AFS returnee Ed Dames will be premiered at the gala night and performed by the University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors under the baton of Professor Ed Manguiat.
The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe, the Deaf Choir, and a cast of AFS talents will cap the gala night with an interpretative dance, a Silent Praise song, and a live concert, respectively.
AFS alumni and invited celebrities will engage in a whole-day family celebration at The Palms Country Club in Alabang on August 18, featuring team-oriented games such as Dodgeball and Volleyboom.
Since its institution in the Philippines in 1957, AFS Philippines has sent more than 1 700 students around the world as young ambassadors of goodwill.
