2/3/2008 - Julkiram to join alumni training in CA
Because of his noteworthy volunteerism and involvement, Intejar Julkiram, AFS-Youth Exchange and Study Program Batch 2004-2005 alumnus, will represent AFS Philippines in an intensive Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop for volunteers, alumni and staff at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Redondo Beach in Los Angeles, California, Feb. 3-8.
Julkiram will undergo sessions on leadership and developing a self-sustaining alumni infrastructure, and will be exposed to tools and techniques necessary to extend the impact of cross-cultural experiences to communities throughout the weeklong training.

Hosted in Maine during his AFS year, Intejar Julkiram is currently a sophomore Accountancy major at the Xavier University in Cagayan De Oro City.
“Leadership training and seminar workshops would be of great help to the YES alumni’s capability of handling important projects and jobs,” Julkiram said in his application.
“The need to realize the current situation of the country at this point of time and not take it for granted is a must for every citizen residing in this country for the benefit of the world.”
Julkiram will also meet and share practices with fellow alumni from different participating nations, experienced trainers, and volunteers from all over the world.
“We are highly aware of the need to carefully nurture these young people and to provide appropriate support for them in order that the goals of the program, to foster improved relations between the US and the Philippines, be successfully met,” said Kerri Dooley, Project Director of AFS-USA, in a letter to AFS-Philippines
After the training, Julkiram is expected to promote YES leadership development in the community and conduct training workshops and facilitate reinforced alumni involvement, especially with younger batches.
Established with the vision of improving the training and leadership skills capacity of YES alumni, the Training of Trainers workshop aims to provide its participants with skills and tools necessary to effectively train other alumni upon returning home, and begin formation of a group of YES alumni within each country who can serve as a training resource and take on leadership roles in alumni training and presentation needs.
