8/26/2007 - AFS-RP Board defines 5 priorities
Soon after the 2007 AFS Board of Trustees was elected, a Priority Setting session was conducted on May 12, 2007 to define the essential priorities and goals of the organization.
Forty participants composed of alumni, volunteers, and Board members attended the 5-hour session in Makati City and culled five priorities from an original number of 103 issues and opportunities submitted by invited participants prior to the meeting.
Tachi Cazal, president of AFS International, phoned in from New York to open the session. United States Embassy cultural officer Bruce Armstrong gave a brief speech to define the objectives of the AFS-YES Program and the specific actions AFS Philippines needed to take to stay in the program.
The Board subsequently formed special committees to mobilize the following priorities:
- Expand and develop Hosting and Sending programs: Year Program (YP), Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, and Japan-ASEAN (JENESIS) Program
- Increase awareness of AFS among target audiences: alumni, schools, business leaders in target cities
- Install AFS Intercultural Programs-Philippines (IPP) Structure, Board, Staff, and Governance
- Focus alumni on fund-raising and volunteer work
- Develop strong chapters in target cities and start seeding in other cities
