10/31/2007 - AFS Philippines attends AFS Global 2007 World Congress
Represented by board members Bonnie Guerra (Chair), Loida Mayo (Secretary), Leah Ponio, Janet Canillas, Ridwan Landasan (YES Batch M-05) and Acting National Director Elizabeth Venzon-Eduave, the AFS Philippines delegation attended the 60th anniversary celebration of AFS in the Sheraton Hotel, New York City, Oct. 28.
Together with delegates from participating countries, the delegates participated in a series of events that celebrated the six-decade presence of AFS in fostering intercultural exchange, including a tour and immersion into the neighborhoods of Hamilton Heights, Sugar Hill, Sylvan Terrance in Harlem, among others.
AFS Volunteer Bernard Mayo attended the World Peace Forum, a congregation aimed to discuss themes related to promoting peace, international diplomacy and the growing importance of intercultural education as a tool to promote wider global understanding and peace, at the Alfred Lerner Hall, Columbia University, October 27th.
Francisco Guerra III (Batch 15), on the other hand, was nominated for the position of international trustee.
AFS Alumni Henry Howard (USA to Cagayan De Oro, 1972) donated a table at the Congress Gala Night to host distinguished guests from the Philippine government and industry.
